STC’s Explained

Stc’s or Small Technology Certificates are created by installing Renewable Energy items such as Solar Power, Wind Turbines, Hydro systems and solar hot water or heat pumps. The Government estimates how much renewable energy your system can produce over a 15 year period. 1 STC =1mwh of renewable energy or 1STC = 1000000watts of electricity.

For example for a 1.5kw system it is estimated that it can produce 31000000watts over a 15 year period.
With the government encouraging renewable energy they have multiplied this amount by 3 until the 30th of June 2012 after this date the amount will be multiplied by 2.

As it stands a 1.5kw system producing 31 stc’c then multiplied by 3 = 93 STC’s. This then becomes a point of sale discount on your system this is also a variable amount depending on the current market value of each STC.
This price can vary anywhere between $15 each to a top of $40 each STC.
The current STC price is around $30

This brings the current discount for a 1.5kw system to around $2970 but this amount can vary daily.
